I recommend paying for a funeral ahead of time, which we did with Houston Jewish Funerals years ago. The staff at HJF are compassionate, well informed, efficient, and thorough. During the time of the death of a loved one, it is very stressful and it’s good to know you can trust Houston Jewish Funerals to take care of the details. Then they follow up afterwards. We will be using HJF again.

I cannot say enough about the compassion and professionalism of Houston Jewish Funerals. When my husband was diagnosed with ALS, we turned to Houston Jewish Funerals to walk us through the pre-need considerations. Josh Reinitz understood the road ahead with ALS and patiently answered all our questions, provided advice, and helped us put in place our pre-need plans. When Brian died several months later, Eric Bishop and the HJF team maintained a good line of communication with us and carried out everything seamlessly and beautifully and with great attention to detail. It was a great relief to know that they were there to orchestrate everything. The HJF staff's compassion did not end with the services. They checked in with us afterwards to see how we were doing. And I still appreciate the weekly Grief Support emails that they send; I read each and every one of them.

Cindy Kaplan was incredible every step of the way. I am so grateful for the kindness and patience she showed me when I made the decision to purchase a prepaid funeral package. It was something I would not have done if it weren't for her kindness and willingness to explain the benefits of doing this. I also received a warm call from Zane Belyea expressing his condolence. HJF are some of the most down to earth, patient, thoughtful, caring professionals I’ve ever encountered. Their honesty and serenity brought a lot of comfort to my mother when they came out to help her plan her final wishes. Thanks to HJF we were able to bury my mom the same day that she passed. The casket was elegantly austere exceeding my mother’s expectations ( mom’s wishes: “just put me in a pine box!”). Houston Jewish Funerals handled both of my parents funerals. I've known Eric Bishop at HJF for more than 30 years, and you couldn't ask for anyone better suited to assist in times like this. He seemingly knows everyone in the Houston Jewish community, knows all the available services and questions to ask, and had the answer to all my questions when asked. Eric's demeanor and caring were tremendously appreciated. He handled all of the funeral details both times, removing a TON of otherwise very stressful tasks from our plates at a time we needed it most. Eric and his team were on point throughout the process and everything went exactly as promised. While I never hope to have to plan a funeral, when need arises, there's no one I could think of who I would rather have assist. Eric, his team, and HJF overall do a great service to the community.

I got my Mother’s funeral arrangement years before her death. When she past. Jane Shapiro and her team took care of everything. Houston Jewish Funerals took care of ALL the details for my mom's funeral. They had to transport the body from out of state, store it through Hurricane Beryl, and deal with last minute changes at the cemetery due to Beryl. OMG, Eric Bishop went above and beyond for my step fathers funeral. In the flooding rain, he managed to get us safely to a covered area and seated along the sidewalk once the rain stopped. This all happened 45min before the actual funeral. He did and amazing job and also guided us through all the options that needed to be completed. Thank you Eric!!!

Houston Jewish Funerals was a blessing during a really hard time. Unfortunately, we had to bury my 34 year old brother, and they handled a bad situation with such grace. We worked with Cindy and Shawn. They were patient, empathetic, and caring through all of the inevitable logistics we had to plan. We did not have to lift a finger during the funeral or memorial and everything went beyond smoothly. And, that didn’t stop with the day of the funeral. Cindy has followed up afterwards, guiding us through the grieving process. I would highly recommend using Houston Jewish Funerals.

Just outstanding service from start to finish. Took care of all the details, walked me through prepayment of my brother’s burial expenses, as well as providing shiva candles, templates for the obituary, visitation book. They thought of everything and checked in before, during and after. I have buried both of my brothers, one in Dallas and more recently in Houston. The experience could not have been more different. They made a difficult situation easy. I didn’t have to focus on anything but my family, and I am so grateful. I cannot give high enough marks to Houston Jewish services.

I can't say enough good things about Eric Bishop and Houston Jewish Funerals. Our matriarch died unexpectedly out of town in the week of our son's wedding and Eric got us through that week with care and understanding of our emotional roller coaster. He handled the necessary transport back to Houston and all the details so that we could keep focused on the wedding. Our family is grateful for the comfort and services provided by Eric and Houston Jewish Funerals.

Losing a loved on is never a pleasant experience but the staff at Houston Jewish Funerals makes it easier. Eric Bishop is a wonderful person and arranged everything with professionalism and care. The staff also provided all the Thank you cards you need and candles for memorial services for home. Everything was wonderful. And even two months later I still get calls and emails from the staff asking how I am doing.

We had the unfortunate need for funeral services following an unexpected death in our family. I called Houston Jewish Funerals hoping for a solemn, honest process - and that’s very much what we received. Eric Bishop and Lou Dorfman met me at their office with an open door and heartfelt words. They explained the process, were open about costs, and ensured us that the process would be smooth. They coordinated with the hospital, the cemetery, etc. No detail was left unattended to. I have only positive words for Eric and Houston Jewish Funerals. Thank you.

We decided to pre-plan our funerals this year so our children did not have to worry about all the details Called HJF and scheduled a visit with Josh Reinitz. He is the nicest and most personable young man. It started out just my husband and myself and by the time we met with him, about a week later, we had 7 family members in the meeting. We signed up, did the paper work, and decided on payment options, and we were done.
