William Goldberg

William Stuart Goldberg passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family and caregivers. William was born in Houston, Texas at St. Joseph Hospital on February 24, 1941, to Bernice Lipsey Goldberg and Harry Goldberg. He attended San Jacinto High School and was an active member of Cyrus Adler AZA. He started his college years at the University of Texas at Austin and made lifelong friends when he joined Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. After his service in the Air Force Reserve, he continued his education and graduated with a Business Degree from the University of Houston. While at the University of Houston, Willy married Lynn Rosenthal, started his career in the insurance business, and together, he and Lynn started their 60 years of loving marriage. William was well known in the insurance industry, not only for his business expertise, but also for his integrity, empathy and his infectious smile. His service to the community was well known, as he held many leadership positions in numerous organizations. At Beth Yeshurun Synagogue, he served as President of the Congregation, of the Day School Board and the Men’s Club. He also served on the boards of Seven Acres, Israel Bonds, and The Houston Estate and Financial Forum. He was an ardent supporter of the Houston Cougars and could always be found at the football and basketball games, sharing his passion with three generations of his family. William’s greatest joy came from being with his family, whether at holidays with brothers and sisters in laws, nieces and nephews, or every Friday night sharing Shabbat dinner with Lynn, the children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn, his brother Floyd Goldberg (Charlotte), daughters Bonnie Winograd and Hayley Feldman (Marc), and grandchildren Nicole Winograd, Jake Feldman, and Aidan Feldman, brother in law and sister in law, Norman and Marlene Rosenthal, and sister in law, Karen Rosenthal. William was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Harry Goldberg, his in-laws, Fay and Harry Rosenthal, and brother in law, Allan Rosenthal. A special thank you goes to his many devoted caregivers. A funeral service was held on Friday, September 6, 2024, in the Sophia and Jack Bender Memorial Chapel at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Ln., Houston, Texas, 77055.
