Rosalind Baraban Kalmans

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Clara and Hymie Baraban, Rosalind was raised in Kansas City alongside her younger brothers, Joe and Billy. She attended the University of Oklahoma for two years when she left to marry her husband, Melvin Kalmans. Married for 65 years, they made their lives in Houston where Rosalind made significant contributions to the Jewish community, first as a long time BBYO advisor and then by working in the resettlement program of the Jewish Family Service. She also was well known from her Gifts N Gab days making sure everyone in town had some form of lucite with bubble letters on it. But her greatest love and biggest sense of accomplishment was her family. She loved them deeply and unconditionally. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and a very very proud Bubbe Roz, and the admiration was mutual. Rosalind loved spending time with family and friends, traveling (especially cruising), reading, playing mah jongg and bridge. She built a life centered on love, for her family, her friends, and the everyday moments that brought people together. By all accounts, it was a life well lived. Rosalind was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Hymie Baraban, and her brothers/sisters-in-law, Bernice and Rueben Edelstein, Phil and Irene Heintz, and Buddy Kalmans. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Melvin Kalmans; her children, Stephanie and Andy Pelmoter and Brad and Melissa Kalmans; her grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Kalmans and Anna, Jack and Leo Pelmoter; her brothers, Joe Baraban (Mikki Donnelly) and Bill Baraban (Joni); and her brothers/sisters- in-law, Susie and Sam Simon, Doris Kalmans, and Bob Lewis. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews that she deeply loved. A funeral service will take place on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 9:30 am in the Sophia and Jack Bender Memorial Chapel at Beth Yeshrurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Lane, Houston, Texas 77055.
