Reba Magids

Reba Eskowitz Magids, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Reba was born in Galveston, Texas on April 28, 1934, where she lived for a short period before moving to Houston for the rest of her life. While attending San Jacinto High School, and active in BBG #63, she met a college boy and the love of her life, Barnett “Bobby” Magids, who truly swept her off her feet. A year after her high school graduation, they were married and began a wonderful 53 years together. She loved being a mom to her two children when they were growing up but decided to try her hand at real estate when her youngest went off to college. She and two dear friends started Remar Investments and bought houses, fixed them up, and resold them. Reba loved life and she loved people. She truly had the “gift of gab.” She was the most generous, thoughtful and giving human being – no occasion was ever missed. Her home was like a Hallmark store. She loved Mah Jongg, beautiful flowers, every kind of sweet known to man, Wheel of Fortune and Moeller’s Bakery. And how she loved to dance with our Dad. They were light as air together on the dance floor. She loved to travel – whether on a cruise, to Europe or Israel. She especially loved to go to Miami to see her “Miami crew.” She loved her “shul” Congregation Beth Yeshurun where she belonged for over 70 years. She devoted a large portion of her life to caring for her own mom who lived with our family for over 25 years. She was truly selfless in every sense of the word. But most of all she loved her family and friends. She was blessed to have many friends for over 75 years. Her most priceless treasure was her family. She is survived by her beloved children Marc & Dianne Magids and Shelly & Steve Brodie, her cherished grandchildren – Bradley & Alexis Brodie, Jennifer & AJ Rosenfeld, Michael & Rooney Brodie, and Jeffrey & Taylor Magids, and the true lights of her life, her 10 great-grandchildren – Benjamin, Jackson, Hanna, Andrew, Adam, Ian, Matthew, Noah, Margot & Hayden. Reba is also survived by her loving sisters-in-law Judy Magids and Jan Magids and many nieces, nephews and cousins who were all very, very important to her. Her niece Sheryl Eskowitz was like another daughter to her – so devoted and she was so grateful for that. Reba was the true “matriarch” of our family for the last 17 years and made sure to be at every celebration – wherever it was! She kept in touch with everyone and for that she was adored. Reba was preceded in death by her beloved husband Barnett “Bobby” Magids, her loving parents and in-laws Adele & Harry Eskowitz and Fannie & Charles Magids, her brother and sister-in-law Maurice & Inez Eskowitz, her brothers-in-law Sammy & Jack Magids and her nephew Maury Magids. The family is especially grateful to Mirthala Ramirez and Georgeina Sims who made her daily life comfortable and loving. We would also like to thank the following doctors that provided comfort and care over several challenging years: Dr. Christopher Nevins, Dr. Clinton Doerr, Dr. Stephen Lapin, and Dr. Juan Olivero. Reba will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her loving heart, her very sharp mind, and her big personality that could light up a room. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, she will be deeply missed by all that were lucky enough to know her. A funeral service followed by interment will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Bender Memorial Chapel at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak, 7445 Awty School Ln, Houston, TX 77055.
