Nancy Landa

Nancy Frimel Landa passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026. She was born in Houston on September 10, 1937, to her adoring parents, Helen and Max Frimel. Nancy grew up surrounded by family including many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She and her sister, Yvonne, were close as children and that closeness continued throughout their lives. At Lamar High School, Nancy was admired by many for her beauty and charm, and she enjoyed great success in the social activities of her day. She was proud to have been elected during her years at Lamar to the positions of duchess and then queen of her school court. In 1956, Nancy married the love of her life, Johnny Landa. They became devoted parents to three children, Lori, John Jr., and Leslie, and they enjoyed many enduring friendships throughout their lives. Nancy and Johnny were lifelong members of Congregation Beth Israel and Nancy served as a member of the temple board of trustees. In later years, Nancy and Johnny were delighted to welcome to the family sons-in-law, Scott Wulfe and Doug Gilstrap, and daughter-in-law, Suzy Landa, and they were blessed with nine grandchildren whom they adored: Mark, Blake, and Alison Wulfe, Jennifer, Kimberly, and Daniel Landa, and Laura, Julia, and Anne Gilstrap. In 1999, Johnny was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and he and Nancy pursued every possible treatment for his illness. They were supported by their faith, their family, and many dear friends until Johnny passed away in 2002. Despite her devastating loss, Nancy was determined to carry on and to set an example of strength and resilience for her children and grandchildren. She was fortunate to have Myron Marks in her life as her devoted companion, and they enjoyed many happy times together. When Nancy began her cognitive decline, Myron was a great source of love and comfort to her. Nancy was blessed with wonderful caregivers who watched over her with love and devotion. Nancy is survived by her children, Lori and Scott Wulfe, Johnny and Suzy Landa, and Leslie and Doug Gilstrap; her grandchildren, Mark and his wife, Christine Wulfe, Blake and Alison Wulfe, Jennifer and her husband, Dany Kamkhagi, Kimberly and Daniel Landa, Laura and her husband, John Brendan Owens, and Julia and Anne Gilstrap; and great-grandchildren, David and Eva Wulfe and Mila and Sloan Kamkhagi; sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Arnold Miller; cousin, Gary Grossman; and many nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to Nancy’s caregivers, Miriam Chapa, Lupita Paredes, Yessica Navarette, and Clementina Caballero. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in The Herman and Elaine Proler Chapel at Congregation Beth Israel Memorial Garden, 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, Texas 77055.
