Morton Lipman

Morton B. Lipman, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away on February 10, 2018. He was born on November 19, 1929 in Norwich, CT. He fought in the Korean war from September 1950 to September 1952 and then continued to serve in the Army reserves for 20 years. After returning from the war, Morton (aka Papa) worked for his family's business, Sam and Son's Department Store, in New Bern, NC. During his time there, he opened the shoe department within their business. After 13 years, Papa left the family business and opened The Stagg Shop, a men's clothing store. In 1964 he sold The Stagg Stop and he and his family moved to Houston, TX. Papa worked for Sakowitz Department Store in Houston. After several years with the company he left and went on to buy and operate a children's clothing store. From there, he worked for another family member doing traveling sales for a year. He, then, became the general manager of Everett-Beulew until he retired in the early 1990s. Papa was not the type of man to sit so he went on to work part time for Walter Pye, Jr., Bubba Silberstein, and finally Macy's. Papa was a Sudan Shiner life member since 1953. His hobbies included being an avid golfer, gardener, frequent cruiser, and longwinded storyteller. In 2001, his wife (aka Nana) of 48 years had a massive stroke, leaving her physically and mentally impaired. From that point on, he dedicated his entire life to caring for her. He spent all his free time taking care of her every need. In December 2016, Nana was moved to 7 Acres. However, that did not stop him from being the husband he had always been. Papa did not let a day go by that he did not go spend time with her, sit with her at meals, or just go visit and watch t.v. by her side. Papa was the best example of what a loving husband should be. He is proceeded in death by his father, Harry Lipman, mother, Marcia Lipman, and brother, Edward Lipman. He is survived by his wife, Carole Lipman of 64 years, brother and his wife, Ken and Jane Lipman, son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Lisa Lipman, daughter, Caren Canady, grandchildren, Meredith Berry (husband Jon), Shara Serrano (husband David), Megan Canady, and great-grandchildren, Camilla, Sebastian, and Jaxon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to 7 Acres, Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center, or a charity of your choice in his memory. He will always be remembered as a caring and loving man who will greatly be missed.
