Maxine Fisher

Maxine Fisher, 72, passed away after a long illness at Harbor Hospice in Houston on Thursday, May 2, 2019. She leaves behind her husband Ed Barnhill; daughter Dana Cullen and her husband Colby; son Cody Barnhill and his wife Kaitlyn; her precious grand-children Delta, Asa, Josie, and Zach Melton; brother Larry and his wife Ronnie; niece Lori Schreiber and her husband Zach; nephew Steven Fisher and his wife Kate; grand-nieces and grand-nephews Jake, Carly (who would call Maxine "the world's best gift giver"), Lexi, Zoe, and Ryan; cousin Howie Fields and his girlfriend Maria Lazzaro; best friend Tami Martin; God-daughter Maurice Guerrero and grand-daughter Letty Guerrero. Born in Brooklyn NY and raised in Coney Island, a block away from the ocean and the boardwalk, Maxine would graduate from Abraham Lincoln High School and begin a variety of diverse jobs that would include working for a toy company and a furniture manufacturer before landing in the Telemarketing field in New York City. In the 1990s she would continue in that capacity in Houston, TX at Telesystems Telemarketing. Her gift of gab would lead her to a position as Senior Floor Manager where, for ten years, she was responsible for training, hiring, and firing. Later, her life would change dramatically upon meeting her future husband Ed Barnhill, his daughter Dana, and their Arkansas family thereby beginning the most joyous part of Maxine's life. This was highlighted, in 2009, by the birth of Josie. Maxine would then become promoted to 'Bubby', a position that gave her ten of the most joyful years of her life. Never, according to her brother Larry, had she ever been as happy and fulfilled as she then became. During her Sunday phone calls with her brother, it was always...Josie this, and Josie that. This special little girl would become the center of Maxine's universe. Then a new home in Jonesboro appeared and her delight and dedication in decorating it became a passionate hobby. But beyond that it was a labor of love with the ultimate goal being the creation of a loving, warm, and comfy home for her new family. Maxine's giving nature redefined the word generosity. Whether you were a family member, a friend, or just a stranger in need, it was so common for her to put the needs and happiness of others above her own. She will be missed and loved forever by so many.
