Larry Irving Serota

Larry Irving Serota passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the age of 71. Larry was born in Philadelphia on May 7, 1954, to parents, Harold and Marcella Serota. Larry graduated from Temple University in 1975 and later attended Ohio University, earning a Master's degree in Sports Administration. After finishing school, he married the love of his life, Shelly Chadwin Serota, on December 2, 1979, in Philadelphia. Larry loved baseball beyond all measure. He moved to Houston to run the Marketing department for the Astros and even visited Cooperstown to see his favorite player, Nolan Ryan, be inducted into the Hall of Fame. His passion for sports was evident to all who knew him, and he would consistently call into Houston sports radio shows to voice his opinions, of which he had many. After working for the Astros, he transitioned into financial management as an Institutional fixed income broker, harnessing his love for sales and helping his clients navigate the investment world. Larry was a kind and generous man who loved spending time with his family and friends. Although he moved to Houston, he always stayed connected to his lifelong friends from Philly. He and his family visited the Jersey Shore every summer in Margate, and he loved to ride bikes on the boardwalk. He was a regular member of the Houston JCC tennis leagues most of his life, making many friends along the way. He was also an avid bowler who spent many weekends at the bowling alley. He was an incredibly dedicated father, husband, and grandfather. Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Shelly. He is survived by his children, Jared (Katherine Sher) and Jason (Carly Serota), his sister, Shelly (Ed Gardner), and his grandchildren, Sadie, Reece, Shay, Naomi, and Eleanor. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his partner, Melody Allen, as well as her children, Mandy, Ty (Kylee), and Melody’s grandchildren, Hudson, Camden, Calla, and Ny. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Lane, Houston, Texas 77055. Larry was passionate about sports and, as such, his family is encouraging everyone in attendance to wear their favorite sports apparel.
