Joyce Daily Goodman

Joyce Daily Goodman was born October 17, 1937, in Houston, Texas, to Leonard and Lillie (Oshman) Daily. She was raised in Richmond, Texas in a close-knit community of relatives and friends, many of whom she kept up with during her lifetime. Joyce graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School and the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in English. A proud Texas Longhorn, she was a member of Sigma Delta Tau (SDT) sorority. In 1959, Joyce met Alfred Goodman, and they married at Congregation Emanu El on July 14, 1960. Joyce was an independent-minded woman who enjoyed sharing her love of art, wine, books, and music (particularly opera) with family and friends. She was a life-long learner, enjoying classes at the Women’s Institute of Houston and participating in several book clubs. Joyce served Congregation Emanu El in several capacities, including on its Board of Directors and Sisterhood. Mom loved her family above all else. She especially cherished the time spent with her seven grandchildren. Her laugh was contagious and came easily and heartily in stories with her grandkids. She was overjoyed at the birth of her great-grandson, Jonathan Stewart. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Alfred Goodman; her sister, Anita Hamburg; and her parents, Leonard and Lillie Daily. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Oshman, and her children: Laura Goodman Towber, Steven and Maxine Goodman, and David and Patricia Goodman, and grandchildren: Meredith and Adam Stewart (and great-grandson Jonathan Stewart), Matthew Goodman, Rachel Goodman, Audrey Goodman, Andrew Towber, Jacob Towber, and Ethan Towber. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Margaret King who tirelessly and with great compassion and dedication cared for and was a dear friend to Joyce during Joyce’s final season of life. The funeral service will take place on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at 2:00 pm in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet Street, Houston, Texas 77074.
