Fira Kaplanskaya

Fira Kaplanskaya passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers on Friday, May 30, 2025. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. Fira was born on September 20, 1929, in Glussk, Belorussia. Her early life was marked by the upheaval of World War II. When World War II broke out, her family was evacuated to Central Asia. Tragically, her parents died there from hunger during those harrowing years. Fira survived thanks in large part to her older sister, Lena. The bond they shared remained unbreakable throughout their lives, as Lena remained her best friend and closest companion for the rest of her life. After the war, Fira went to live with her uncle in Baku. She later got married and took on the responsibility of raising her daughter Marina with steadfast love and dedication. Years later, she immigrated to the United States, a journey that was deeply challenging for someone who had already been uprooted many times in her life. Still, she faced each change with remarkable inner strength. Fira dedicated herself to raising her daughter, Marina, and later played a central role in helping raise her grandchildren, Lina and Lennie, with the same love, discipline, and wisdom. She delighted in being a great-grandmother to Ari, Aaron, Ayla, Liev, and Liam, passing on to them the stories and values that defined her life. Fira held a deep connection to her Jewish heritage, most of which she learned from her Orthodox grandfather, whom she adored and often spoke of with reverence. Her identity and moral compass were shaped by those early teachings and remained central to who she was. Fira will be remembered for her remarkable strength and enduring loyalty to her family. A private graveside service was held on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
