Ethel M. "Jeannie" Tiras

Ethel M. “Jeannie” Tiras was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit enriched the lives of all who knew her. Born on May 24, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jeannie was the cherished daughter of Meyer and Elsie Moran. She graduated from Central Tulsa High School and went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin. It was there she met her lifelong partner, and love of her life, Jerry Tiras of Houston, Texas. Their marriage spanned an extraordinary 67 years, marked by deep love, mutual respect, and shared adventures. Jeannie and Jerry built a beautiful family together, raising three sons: Alan, Scott, and Mitch Tiras. With profound love for her daughters (in law), Natalie Tiras, Jennifer Tiras and Alyssa Tiras, her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Meredith (Tiras) Mitnick, Nathan Tiras, Jordann (Tiras) Savage, Avery Tiras, Ryan Tiras, Carly Tiras, Reece Tiras, and Dawson Tiras—and great-grandchildren: Layla Mitnick, Jonathan Tiras, Eli Mitnick, and Nora Tiras. She was also the devoted younger sister of Melvin Moran of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Sidney Moran of Houston, Texas. A dynamic and progressive entrepreneur, Jeannie brought her passion for design and community to several ventures. She co-owned the Jewish Community Center Gift Shop, where she helped curate meaningful Judaica and gifts. Alongside her friend, Roz Kalman, and her long-time business partner, Sara Levine, she co-founded Gifts ’n Gab, a boutique known for its unique selections and warm atmosphere. Later, she failed retirement and partnered with her husband to launch J. Tiras Classic Handbags, blending fashion with functionality in designs that reflected her personal elegance. Jeannie’s love for travel took her across the globe, and she delighted in discovering new cultures, cuisines, and experiences. Yet, her greatest joy was always her family. She was a constant presence at family gatherings, celebrations, and milestones, offering her unwavering support and boundless affection. Known for her vibrant personality and generous heart, Jeannie cultivated deep friendships that spanned decades. Her home was a welcoming haven, filled with laughter and love. She had a special ability to make everyone feel loved, remembered, and cherished. Jeannie’s life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and community. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a blessing. A graveside service will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Beth Israel Memorial Garden, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, Texas 77055.
