Elton Stanley Lipnick

Elton Stanley Lipnick, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, January 30, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. Elton was born October 3, 1934, in Galveston, Texas, to Paul and Fannie Lipnick, of blessed memory. After graduating from Ball High, he went to the University of Texas at 16 years old, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1955. He served in the Army, and upon return went to work for the IRS, while attending night classes at South Texas College of Law. He was rightfully proud to have earned the highest grade on the bar exam when he sat for it in 1962. Elton went on to establish Lipnick & Gordon Co., a law practice focused on estate planning, with Steve Gordon, and was eventually joined by his younger brother, Jerome. He was devoted to his clients and treasured the many long-term relationships he built over his more than 50 years in practice. Known as "El Uno y Solo," Elton always did it his way. He put family first, had an exceptionally brilliant mind, was charitable, and had definite ideas about almost everything. He never missed a simcha, loved to travel, and led the fastest 30-minute Passover seders ever. He always had a yellow legal pad and blue Paper Mate Flair nearby, and read multiple newspapers daily. He had a regular golf game every Saturday and Sunday with the same friends for over 50 years, and was a formidable competitive duplicate bridge player. He loved a happy face, but emphatically preferred, and only drew them with noses. Elton is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Janet. He is survived by his beloved children and stepchildren, David & Kathy Lipnick, Amy & Myles Kelman, Mark Rubin and Gail Rubin, and grandchildren Estela & Elio Lipnick, Eleanor & Charlie Kelman, and Seth & Abby Rubin. He is also survived by his sister, Sonya Lipnick, sister-in-law, Hope Lipnick (Jerome z"l), niece Allison Ghajar and nephew Michael Lipnick, and many dear cousins and friends. Service will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 10:30 am, in the Rotunda at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet St, Houston. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the JCC Houston, the Houston Food Bank, or the charity of your choice.
