Craig S. Smith

Craig S. Smith, 75, left a family void when he passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Houston, Texas. He was born on August 1,1950 in Lynbrook, New York to Shirley and Felix Smith. A native New Yorker, Craig grew up on Long Island, graduated from The University at Buffalo, spent his twenties in Manhattan and raised his family in Rockland County. He most recently relocated to Houston, Texas to be closer to his children. The youngest of three children, Craig was known for his mischievous and playful behavior. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor, providing the entertainment throughout his childhood and into his college years. After graduating, he found success as a salesman in the garment center of New York City and eventually settled upstate with his wife, Colette, and their two children, Lindsay and Justin. Craig followed several different opportunities to work in various industries throughout his later years. Although divorced, he and Colette maintained a close relationship and co-parented with ease. In 2025, Craig suffered through a life-threatening accident that left him on a ventilator and in a coma for two months. Through a miraculous turn of events, he was given a second chance at life and worked tirelessly to talk, walk and live independently once again. His family will forever cherish the extra time they were blessed to share with him. Some of Craig’s happiest moments were spent playing outside with his three grandsons. He thoroughly enjoyed good Chinese food and was constantly in search of the perfect wonton soup. As an avid sports enthusiast, he could often be found watching the New York Giants and Yankees games with his son. When the television turned off, the music came on and his dancing shoes came out. Craig lived a happy, simple life and loved being surrounded by family. Craig is survived by his former wife, Colette Smith, his daughter, Lindsay Steinberg (Zach), his son, Justin Smith, his brother, Bruce Smith, and his sister, Janis Mills. He is remembered lovingly by his grandchildren, Gavin, Rory, and Bryce Steinberg. Craig’s legacy of joy, warmth, sense of humor and unconditional love for his children and grandchildren will live on through all who knew and loved him. A funeral service will take place on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11:30am at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries in the Sanctuary of Abraham & Sarah Mausoleum, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey 07652. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association (www.lung.org/donate), or a charity of your choice.
