Clara "Dolly" Goldberg

Clara “Dolly” Goldberg, beloved matriarch and proud Texan, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of strength, humor, conviction, and unwavering devotion to family. She now joins her loving husband of 56 years, Morris Samuel Goldberg, z”l, and her dear friend, Mary Renfro—the Thelma to her Louise. Born August 25, 1926, in Galveston, Texas, Dolly was the cherished daughter of Fannie Haar and her adopted father, Daniel John Wilson. She was predeceased by her brothers, Harold “Sonny” Brecher and Joseph Brecher. Though she lived her entire adult life in Houston, she always considered Galveston home. She loved the beach, but she never deigned to touch the sand (it was far too messy). Together with Morris, Dolly built a home filled with laughter, strong values, and of course, Lysol. She was the proud mother of three sons: Daniel; Charles, z”l, who passed away in 2023; and Harold. She called them what they were—troublemakers—and she did so with unmistakable pride. She welcomed her daughters-in-law as (mostly) her own: Patricia Segal, Randi Goldberg, and Louise Goldberg. Her greatest joy was her growing family. She leaves eight grandchildren: Courtney Lindloff (Josh Lindloff); Jason Goldberg (Megan Jones Goldberg); Brittany McCann (Tod Kean); Emily Knox (Jason Knox); Kevin Goldberg (Jacqueline Goldberg); Michelle Goldberg (fiancé John Beilue); Amanda Becraft (Andrew Becraft); and Alexa Janicke (Clayton Janicke). She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren—Henry, Jane, Eli, Ezra, Katherine, Sophie, Sloane, and Abigail—each of whom brought her immense joy. Dolly was feisty, sharp-witted, and fastidiously clean. Her standards were high, her opinions strong, and her love never ending. A staunch Democrat, she believed in fairness, justice, and standing up for what was right. Alzheimer’s disease marked her later years, but it did not define her. She will be remembered as the spirited woman from Galveston, the devoted wife, the formidable mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and wearer of a gold bib while eating to keep her outfit spiffy. Dolly’s family is deeply grateful to Veronica Trainer, whose dedicated service and gentle care brought comfort and dignity during a difficult time. A funeral service took place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 10:00 am in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet Street, Houston, Texas 77074, with Rabbi Pamela B.
