Arthur Richard Miller

Arthur Richard Miller, 85, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, March 18th, 2023, in Houston. Arthur was born in Waco, Texas on August 23, 1937 to Hyman and Bessie Miller. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Donna Miller, his sons David Miller and wife Jodi Miller, and Stuart Miller, his grandchildren, Rebecca Miller, Benjamin Miller, Jared Miller, Julia Miller and Alex Miller, his aunt Esther Lipinsky, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Arthur grew up in Waco surrounded by family. He had over ten first cousins that lived within walking distance and said they all grew up in each other’s homes, mainly his grandparents’. He received his BA and BBA from Baylor University where he lived at home and helped take care of his ailing father. After college, Arthur served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He served in San Antonio, TX, Syracuse, NY and a year in Korea. After the Air Force, Arthur began work for Arthur Anderson in Chicago. It is there he met the love of his life, Donna. He proposed on their second date. They were married in February of 1967 in a blizzard. A few years later, they moved back to Texas. Arthur and Donna moved to Houston and built a home two blocks from his sister and brother-in-law where they lived for over 50 years. He loved his house and did not want to ever move. While putting up the mezuzah, he met a neighbor who suggested he get involved in Congregation Beth Yeshurun. The synagogue became a large part of his life. He served as a board member for about ten years, was the executive director for 15 years, and then continued on as the cemetery coordinator for another twenty years before retiring in 2021. Above all else, Arthur loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by them, his sizable extended family and his many friends. Arthur was soft-spoken, but had a quick wit and observed everything. He had a significant impact on many people’s lives. Funeral services for Arthur will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Sophia and Jack Bender Memorial Chapel at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Ln. Houston, TX 77055, with a graveside service immediately following.
