Adele Sandler

Adele Sandler passed away March 24, 2018 at Brookdale Galleria after a short illness. She was born in Houston on September 10, 1930 and graduated from San Jacinto High School. Soon after she graduated, she met Henry Robert Sandler. They were married when she was only eighteen. In the first years of their marriage they lived in Waco, Brownsville, Harlingen, and Baton Rouge and eventually made their home in Houston. On March 13, 2018, they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Adele worked on the finance and administrative side of Designer Jewels, the jewelry business founded by Bobby in 1968. They are longtime members of Temple Emanu El. She loved animals, especially dogs, cooking, and gardening. Adele was an avid baseball fan, and she loved to travel. She had wonderful trips to France, Russia, Hawaii, Cape Cod, Wyoming, Denver, Santa Fe, Mexico, Hong Kong, and Japan over the years, shared with her husband, and some with her sisters and close family friends. Adele and Bobby moved to Brookdale Galleria after their home was flooded in the Memorial Day flood. At Brookdale they found a wonderful community that includes people they have known their whole lives as well as many new friends. Adele was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Joe Segal, and by her sister Rozelle Cohen. She is survived by her loving husband, her sister Leona Odensky, her sister-in-law Rose Sandler, her son Mark Sandler, her daughter-in-law Kathi Sandler, her daughter Stephanie Sandler, her son-in-law Austin Sarat, five grown grandchildren, Joshua Sandler, Matthew Sandler, Benjamin Sarat, Lauren Sarat, and Emily Sarat, as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends, whom she loved. The family wants especially to thank the people who took such good care of Adele during her last years, when her health was not good. The staff at Brookdale Galleria and Brookdale Tanglewood have been truly wonderful, and Adele was lovingly cared for by Flora Okono. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Access for All fund at Temple Emanu El in Houston, to the Houston SPCA, or to a charity of your choice.
