Susan Brady

Susan was born on September 21, 1947, at St, Joseph's Hospital in Houston, TX to Melvin and Lee Silverman. She was the youngest of four daughters. She passed away on July 31, 2024 with her husband and cousin, Suzanne Chesner, present. Susan was 76 when she passed. She attended Southland Elementary and Johnson Junior High in Houston. She graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1965. She initially enrolled in the University of Texas in Austin, but later transferred to the University of Houston where she majored in Elementary Education. She taught in preschool for several years at a small private school in Bellaire. Susan first asked her husband, Harold, for a date in October of 1968. He had only been in Houston for four months when they met. They immediately were attracted to each other. Harold proposed to her 10 weeks later. They were married on August 7, 1970 and were married a week less than 54 years when she passed. Susan loved to cook and started a small catering business. Eventually she went to Houston Community College and became a trained chef. Susan baked for the Beth Israel Sisterhood for a number of years. Susan always had a very strong positive attitude about life in the good and bad times which was noticed by family and friends. Although not a Christian, Susan and her husband liked to celebrate the Christmas season with a party for friends and family for over 30 years. Friends and family members also enjoyed days of pre-party gatherings for food preparation and friendly conversation and snacking. Susan joined the NASA Noelers (ornament collection club) in the 1980's and especially enjoyed their annual December party. Susan enjoyed animated pictures and collected cells from these films for many years to decorate their home. As a graduate of San Jacinto High School, Susan was not fully satisfied with the early reunions. As a result, she assumed leadership for planning and executing the reunions. They were transformed into complete weekend events to help lure out-of-town graduates to attend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Lee Silverman, and by sister, Toby Topek. Susan and Harold had no children, but loved dogs. She is survived by their dogs Holly, Mandy and Cooper who already miss her. She is survived by her husband, Harold Brady, Jr., and her sisters Nancy Kottwitz and Jane Self. We would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at MD Anderson who took excellent care of her and Touching Hearts who provided sitters to help Susan during her stay at MD Anderson.
