SHERI LYNN RATOOSH, M.D., PhD. On Thursday March 5, 2015, Sheri Lynn Ratoosh, MD, PhD - beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, scientist, and physician, left us. Her innumerable sweet memories remain and will be kept close to our hearts. Sheri was born in New Haven, CT on December 20, 1956 and attended Hamden Hall Country Day School, where she starred in theatrical roles. After graduation she attended Tufts University and transferred to Wellesley College. At Wellesley, she performed advanced research on the nuclear differentiation of hormones and graduated as a Durant Scholar. After additional work at the Yale College of Medicine Liver Unit, she matriculated to the Baylor College of Medicine Cell Biology Lab and joined her ultimate spouse in Houston. After receiving her PhD, Sheri attended Medical School and subsequently earned an M.D. degree. She did additional research in Dermatology at MD Anderson Hospital and later completed a Dermatology Fellowship at the University of Texas Houston Medical School. Sheri entered into private dermatology practice and was beloved by her patients and colleagues. While working full time and raising her 3 sons she served as a perennial volunteer for the Houston Skin Cancer Screening Program. Her career was challenged when she discovered a breast cancer by self-exam. Even after a mammogram failed to identify the worrisome abnormality, Sheri insisted on getting a biopsy that eventually determined it was breast cancer. Sheri began a 15 year ordeal with the stage 4/4 metastatic disease, enduring innumerable surgeries, chemotherapies, and radiation treatments. Sheri was a talented gourmet cook, extraordinary ballroom dancer, deep water certified scuba diver, and alpine skier. Her favorite hobbies were resale shopping and unlicensed matchmaking, reveling in the creation of many happily married professional couples. Sheri was predeceased by her parents, Murray and Ann Shrebnik Ratoosh formerly from New Haven, Connecticut. Sheri is survived by sister Judge Amy Simon, and niece Alexandra Simon, of Atlanta, Georgia, her sons Michael, Stephen, and Adam Glombicki, her husband Alan Glombicki, MD. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday March 15th at 3pm. The religious service will be held at Congregation Beth Israel in the Gordon Chapel (5600 N. Braeswood Houston) followed by a 4pm catered reception in their adjacent social hall with music, photo montage, and brief remembrances.
