Shaya Trakhtman

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shaya Trakhtman, who left this world peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 86. Shaya was born on August 7, 1938, in the former USSR, just a few years before the invasion of Nazi Germany during World War II. As a young child, he endured the unimaginable hardship of surviving life in a Nazi concentration camp, and a ghetto. These early challenges shaped Shaya into a resilient and courageous individual who valued life’s blessings deeply. After the war, Shaya worked as a lathe operator, dedicating himself to his craft with skill and passion. He built a life rooted in family and love, marrying his beloved wife, Betya, with whom he had two sons, Ilja and Pavel. In 1997, Shaya and Betya moved to Houston, Texas, to join their son Pavel. He embraced his new life with vigor becoming a proud naturalized U.S. citizen. Shaya was a devoted family man, always finding joy in the accomplishments and happiness of his children and grandchildren. His kind spirit, strength, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones will remain a guiding light for those who knew him. Shaya was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Betya. He is survived by his sons, Ilja, and his wife Elena, and Pavel, and his wife Ekaterina; his beautiful grandchildren, Lidiya, Eva, David, Nicholas, and Alexei; and his great-granddaughter Freya. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Shaya’s caregivers, who provided compassionate support and care during his final years. Shaya’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him. A graveside service was held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Ln., Houston, TX 77055 followed by a remembrance lunch at Goldberg B'nai B'rith Towers.
