Robert Emery Strong Jr.

Robert Emery Strong, Jr. was born August 15, 1946, in Jackson, Mississippi and graduated from Bishop Byrne High School in Port Arthur. He proudly served in the US Army before pursuing a BBA in Accounting from the University of Houston, graduating in 1980. Robert's career in accounting included roles as Manager of Accounting at Mitchell Energy in The Woodlands, followed by Controller positions at Sterling Energy and Stonegate Energy. In 2015, Robert hung up his calculator, retiring from his successful career in accounting and the oil and gas industry. Robert’s passion for teaching led him to serve as an adjunct professor of accounting at Lone Star College until 2022 when he retired permanently from his career. Robert was known among friends for his eclectic music collection, love of painting, travel, a good martini, incredible sense of humor, and his favorite saying, “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.” Although Robert never made a career out of his love of art, he was always working on some new painting or project. Frequently seen poolside, grilling and hosting friends and family, Robert had a zest for life and a deep love for his family. Whether it was playing penny poker or Scrabble with his granddaughters, volunteering at temple, singing in community choir, or traveling with his wife, Vickie, Robert always found ways to stay active and involved with his community and with those that were lucky enough to be called friends. Survived by his wife of nearly 28 years, Vickie Strong, and children, Robert “Rob” Emery Strong III and his wife, Sara Strong, Kate Strong, Jennifer Flinn, and Dana Curley and her husband, Kevin Curley, he was also cherished by his grandchildren, Sydney Flinn, Riley Flinn, Myles Strong, and Rowyn Strong, as well as his great-nephew, Stephen “Kenny” Strong. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with an endless number of close friends and extended family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Emery Strong and Odile Ashford Strong; his brothers, Joseph Strong and Charles Strong; and his sisters, Blanche Strong Hobbs, Sally Strong Ferguson, and Judy Strong Westerfeld.
