Rebeca Sclar de Bielaz

Rebeca Sclar de Bielaz, a beloved wife, mother, Bube (grandmother), daughter, sister, and friend passed away on January 18, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Rebeca was born in Monterrey, Mexico. She was the only daughter to Abraham z'l and Esther Sclar and was surrounded by her four brothers, David, Carlos, Jacobo, and Moishe. She spent her childhood between Monterrey and Mexico City, and it was always filled with laughter, adventures, and friends. Rebeca moved to Israel in 1978 and shortly after met the love of her life, her husband Lazaro Bielaz. They married on December 10, 1978, in Israel. In October 1979, Lazaro and Rebeca welcomed their first daughter, Annette. In 1980, the family moved to Monterrey, Mexico and in 1981 their son, Mauricio, was born. In 1984, the family was complete with the birth of their daughter, Dalit. Rebeca was always involved in the WIZO (Women’s International Zionist Organization) chapter of Monterrey, the Jewish day school PTO, and any volunteer opportunity that the Jewish community offered. She always opened her house to her friends and the friends of her children. Rebeca had a passion to travel and see the world and took every opportunity to do so. She had a unique ability to form friendships with everyone she met. Rebeca kept her friends close like family and maintained many multi-decade long friendships throughout her life. Rebeca’s family was her biggest love, pride, and joy and she made sure to nurture it. All 11 grandchildren adored their Bube. She enjoyed spending as much time with them as she could. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate each of their birthdays, attend programs at their schools, and form special relationships with each one. Rebeca and Lazaro moved to Houston in January 2021 to receive treatment at MD Anderson. The last 2 years were a gift from G-d. She defied all expectations, and she was surrounded by her family. She enjoyed things like traveling, regular Shabbat dinners with her children and grandchildren, celebrated holidays, and many visits from family and friends from all over the world. The highlight of the last few months was her 70th birthday party in November 2022 when she celebrated with over 90 family and friends. Rebeca is survived by her mother, Esther Sclar, her brothers, David, Carlos (Rinath), Jacobo (Jaquie), and Moishe Sclar, her husband, Lazaro Bielaz, her children, Annette and Sammy Davis, Mauricio and Shaina Bielaz, and Dalit and Carlos Wollenstein, and her eleven grandchildren: Yael, Dan, and Alex Davis; Oren, Dori, and Talia Bielaz; Orly, Liam, Maayan, Naomi, and Ari Wollenstein. Rebeca is preceded in death by her father, Abraham Sclar z’l. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 3 PM at Beth Jacob Cemetery, 2300 Almeda Genoa Rd, Houston, TX 77047.
