Perla Filgueira

Perla Herminia Vergina Filgueira, 66, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 in Houston, Texas surrounded by her loving family. Perla leaves her son Sebastian Filgueira and his wife Carly and their son Luca, and her daughter Natasha Filgueira and her husband Matthew and their two daughters, Giuliana and Olivia; and many close friends, which she considered family. She was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, daughter to Fosea (Betty) Koreni. She was also lovingly raised by her maternal grandparents, Moshko and Perla Koreni, whom she adored. She moved to the United States with her mother, who was a flight attendant for Aerolineas Argentinas, first to California and then to Houston, Texas in her teens. She then established a family of her own, had a career and passion for interior design, and made many close friends. Those that knew her know that she had a true passion for interior design and remodeling, excelling in that field. She took great pride in her work and it was evident throughout her life, even after she retired. She loved to travel with her family and friends. Her epic travels, whether packing for months although only travelling for a week, or constantly missing flights, are just some of the many great memories and comedic moments for her to be remembered by. She is also an incredible mesothelioma and myasthenia gravis survivor. Despite many obstacles, she showed her true strength having lived for 13 years after being diagnosed with mesothelioma and was a true inspiration to those around her. Although tested on numerous occasions, and to everyone's amazements, she always fought through her challenges to show those around her how with love from the people close to you and a true love for life, you can overcome any challenge. She was stronger, more independent, and more of a fighter than even she realized. Perla will be remembered for her amazing sense of humor and ability to make anyone laugh, her strength, and her love of life, family, and friends. Perla loved hosting and having family and friends around her, whether for a holiday or a simple weekend. Perla's life ultimately centered around her family, especially the incredible love she had for her grandchildren, Giuliana, Luca, and Olivia. She lived for her grandchildren and was adored by them. She loved them all deeply and was loved back more than anyone can imagine. Although she is gone, stories of her will be told by family and friends so that her spirit will live on forever. She will be incredibly and deeply missed, but will never leave our memories and hearts.
