Morris Taibel

Surrounded by his loved ones, Morris "Maishe" Taibel passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, just 2 days after celebrating his 53rd wedding anniversary. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Morris was most proud of his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Morris was one of six children born to Anne and Daniel Taibel of Cape Town, South Africa on March 13, 1947. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda. Morris met Linda in 1963 when she visited his sister. They lived in Cape Town where they had Andrew and Jonathan. In 1978, they immigrated to the United States. Initially, they lived in Los Angeles where Jason was later born. Several years later, they moved to Houston. Once Morris moved to the states, he enjoyed success for many years as an auctioneer until he retired. Throughout his life, what he loved most was spending time with his family - his children and grandchildren, who brought him so much pride and "nachas." Even as his health declined, his greatest joy was spending time with his loved ones and hosting a weekly Sunday brunch with his family. Morris loved going to the opera with Linda, he was also an avid sports fan, and especially loved going to Astros and Rockets games with his children and grandchildren. Morris placed tremendous value on being Jewish and had a strong connection to Israel and his synagogue, Congregation Beth Yeshurun. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, he enjoyed being a regular at the morning minyans at Beth Yeshurun. He always looked forward to seeing and socializing with the other regulars. He found great comfort at shul and very much viewed it as a second home. Morris was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Anne and Daniel Taibel, and sister, Hannah Levitas. In addition to his wife, Linda, he is also survived by his 3 loving sons, Andrew Taibel (Sarah), Jonathan Taibel (Karyn), and Jason Taibel (Dory); grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Zaida," Neal, Elizabeth, Ashley, Natalie, Meira, Reid and Maddie; and siblings, Harry Taibel (Yaffa), Libby Raichman (Gerald), Basil Taibel (Joan), and Chava Newcombe (Brian). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon, January 19, 2022, at 3:00 PM in the Sophia and Jack Bender Memorial Chapel at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak, 1037 Post Oak Rd, Houston, TX 77055. Memorial contributions may be made in Morris' memory to Congregation Beth Yeshurun or to the charity of your choice.
