Michaela Friedman

Michaela Friedman was born on Tuesday, January 5, 1993, in Houston, Texas to Jeffrey and Debra (Rawlins) Friedman. She passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in Houston, Texas. Michaela grew up in Katy, Texas with her two older siblings, Chase, and Raechel. She was the baby of the family and was most certainly a “daddy’s girl”. Growing up, her father would often spoil her, making sure she had everything she needed while protecting her as much as he could. Michaela and Raechel had a very special bond, as sisters, that Raechel will cherish forever. They would do many things together that carried on into their adulthood like travel, try new restaurants, shop, movies and enjoy relaxing at home with the dogs. Growing up, she always knew how to make people smile and lit up the room whenever she walked in it. She had a special bond with Chase, her brother as well, especially after the passing of their father in January. Michaela attended James E. Taylor High School and eventually graduated from Calvin Nelms Charter School, with her high school diploma, in 2011. She then went on to study Interdisciplinary Studies, at Texas State University, in San Marcos, Texas, graduating with her bachelor’s degree in Applied Arts and Science, in 2018, with a concentration in Psychology, Sociology and Social Work. Michaela was very passionate about helping others and one day wished to have a career in social work, specializing in the adolescent mental health and substance abuse field. Her most recent position was the Fort Bend County Health and Human Services Department and took great pride in her work helping FBC residents seek COVID 19 pandemic assistance. She loved experiencing new things, she loved going to music concerts, plays and shows. Michaela loved laughing and making others smile with her infectious laughter and love. She was an avid video and computer gamer. She was very musically inclined and enjoyed music from all genres, but specifically hip/hop, R & B, rap, dance, and pop music. She was involved in choir and basketball throughout her junior high and high school years. She had the most beautiful voice and loved to sing and dance. She enjoyed watching suspense, comedy, and/or science fiction TV/movies as well as reading tons of books, journaling, coloring and/or creating things from her brilliant mind. She was an extremely creative soul. Michaela’s favorite place to be was wherever her friends or family were. She was very family-oriented and enjoyed spending as much time as she could traveling with both family and friends. She also thoroughly enjoyed living and working in San Marcos, Texas and often reminisced on her time spent there with both her family and her friends – the same town where her beloved father went to school and worked as a young adult. Michaela was proud of her Jewish roots and even had a tattoo of the word/symbol “Chai” or “L’Chaim!”, Hebrew for “life” or “to life”, behind her ear. She also had a tattoo on her foot “don’t forget to love yourself” – a testament to her inner passion and willingness to help others often before she would help herself. Michaela was known by her nieces and nephews as Aunt Mickey: family would occasionally call her Mic for short, her friends would sometimes affectionately call her Mac for short. Friends and family would describe her as “so beautiful and so sweet”, “always had a bright smile”, “such a beautiful soul and lit up any room she was in with her amazing smile”. She was a carefree, adventurous soul who enjoyed the happiness of making others smile and laugh. She was truly the best friend, daughter, sister and aunt anyone could ask for, she will be truly missed by many. She is preceded in death by her father, Jeffrey Anton Friedman, July 18, 1949 – January 24, 2022. She was laid next to him at Bazette Prairie Point Cemetery in Kerens, Texas on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 1 PM. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her mother Debra Rawlins Friedman, her brother, Chase Jerome Rawlins Friedman, his wife Rachel Marie Wayne Friedman, two precious nieces, Juliet and Amelia Friedman, and nephew Carter Friedman. Her best friend and sister, Raechel Redene Friedman and fiancé Kurt Thomas Mozer. In lieu of flowers the family asks to make a donation in her memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
