Maxine Karesh

Maxine Lea Schnierow Karesh, beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Monday morning, July 23 at age 89. She was born in the Chicago area (Oak Park) in 1929, and grew up there as well. She graduated as a Dietician from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, and worked in her field at Continental Coffee. She met Bob, the love of her life, during post graduate night school classes at Northwestern University. They married in 1952 and have been together for over 65 years. After meeting in Chicago, they lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina and Baton Rouge. Twenty-two years ago, they settled in Houston to be close to their grandchildren. Although Maxine left Chicago in the 1950's she remained a loyal Cubs fan and lived to see them win the World Series. Maxine and Bob loved to go dancing and to take Sunday drives - always stopping for chocolate ice cream, no matter the weather. They made it a priority to be an active part of their grandchildren's lives and never missed the important moments for Hannah and Jacob. In her later years, Maxine was fortunate enough to have many adventures traveling with her devoted husband, Bob. Maxine had an intense passion for many things, not the least of which were coffee, the New York Times Sunday Crossword puzzles, Scrabble, bridge, reading and learning, needlework of any and all kinds, chocolate ice cream, baking and creative cooking, and more coffee. Predeceased by her parents E. David Schnierow and Ernstina Brody Schnierow, and her two brothers Gerson and Frank; survived by her beloved husband Robert, her three children, Gail, David (Carolyn) and Richard, grandchildren Hannah (Michael) and Jacob, and great-grandchildren Razele and Elnatan, as well as nieces and nephews, and friends. The family also thanks Tina and Blessing, her dedicated caregivers for the past few years. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a good friend, a kind, thoughtful and ethical person, and a dedicated volunteer for many important causes.
