Max Kamin

Max (Babe) Kamin, age 99, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024. A native Houstonian, born May 25, 1924, Max grew up in the Heights with his parents, four brothers and two sisters. Max was a child of the Great Depression which was instrumental in creating his work ethic. He graduated from San Jacinto High School and early on supported his family businesses. As a member of the Greatest Generation, Max proudly served in the U.S Navy from November 1942-July 1946 and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. He frequently talked of his Navy days with fondness and respect. After his time in the Navy, he attended the University of Texas and soon after came back to Houston to become an entrepreneur in furniture and family businesses. Max always said he lived as long as he did because his greatest loves were his two wives, Ethel Gaitz Kamin and Dawn Kamin. Married 34 years to Ethel and 32 years to Dawn, Max loved the time he spent with each of them traveling, fishing and driving the back roads throughout the US. Family meant all to Max. He is preceded in death by his wives, son, parents, brothers and brother in law, sisters and sisters in law. Max is survived by his children Cindy (Steffen) van Keppel, Dana Kamin, daughter in law Helen Kamin, and step children Tracy (Fred) Miller and Kelly (Steve) Moore, his grandchildren Brent (Hilary) Kamin, Erin (Chris) Clugy, Carrie Alley, Justin (Kathleen) van Keppel, Emily (Daniel) Romero, Jenny (Beck) Miller, Colby (Starr) Miller and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for the love and care Max received from his caregivers - Sandy, Vera, Ike, Soma, Irene and the staffs of Home Health Resources, Blue Star Hospice and The Village of Tanglewood. A private Celebration of Life will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. “When you lose someone you love, you gain an Angel you know”.
