Martin Stoger

Martin Stoger, a Holocaust survivor, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the age of 88. Martin was born in Cracow, Poland, in 1936. When WWII broke out, his mother, Sarna, waited for visas for her family but became trapped in Poland. Sarna was able to obtain papers under an assumed identity and walked out of the Tarnow ghetto with Martin. In the ensuing years, Martin and his mother survived numerous near arrests, the Warsaw uprising, and deportation to a camp. Martin felt a profound loss for the family members killed in the war, especially his grandfather Jonas. Martin and his mother reunited with his father, Hugo, in the United States and formed a new life in California. Martin obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago and opened his own CPA tax practice in Houston, where he was known for his professionalism and affable and caring personality. He especially treasured his relationship with clients, whom he considered friends. Martin retired in 2022 at the age of 85. Martin welcomed his son, Jonathan Stoger, in 1972 and married his wife of 33 years, Teresa Tanenbaum Stoger, in 1991, when he welcomed children, Sheryl Bagdan Weiss (husband Kenneth Weiss, M.D.), and William Bagdan into the family. He later welcomed grandchildren, Sloane Weiss, Mason Weiss, Sydney Weiss, Bari Bagdan, and Nomi Bagdan into the family. The family wishes to give special thanks to Martin’s caregivers in his later years, Mairena Escorza, Iris Sanchez, Selena Murillo, Rosario Morales, Alberta Francis, and Estela Davila. A graveside service was held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet St., Houston, Texas 77074.
