Lillian Rose Farr

Lillian "Lily" Rose Farr, 97, died Friday, November 23, twenty months after being diagnosed with cancer. Lily is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Philip, and her son, Ronald Arthur Farr. She is survived by her son Albert "Al" and wife Arlene of Port St. Lucie, Florida; daughter-in-law Laura Farr of Port Jefferson, New York; and daughter Camelia "Camae" and husband Mark Schultz of Richmond, Texas. Her grandchildren include grandson Scott Farr and wife Lisa, of Deerfield, Florida; grandson Kenneth Farr of Dayton, Ohio; granddaughter Sheri Mongiello and husband Joseph of Manorville, New York; grandson Jason Farr and wife Saundra Truchard of Cedar Park, Texas; granddaughter Melani Schultz and wife Claudia Rubio of Colombo, Sri Lanka; and grandson Adam Schultz and wife Rebecca Nelson of Spring, Texas. Lily's thirteen great grandchildren include Philip and David Farr, Samuel and Jacob Farr, Tabatha Farr, Joseph and Anthony Mongiello, Leahm and Samantha Schultz, Jack and Kate Nelson, and Jacob and Austin Schultz. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Samuel and Bertha Mallin, she is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. At the age of 19, Lily met and soon married the love of her life, Philip, on April 5, 1941. A year later a boy, Ronnie, arrived. Later, Al was born and finally a girl, Camae. Lily and Phil started their small family business selling lamps, shades, occasional furniture, and gifts from a storefront on Sutter Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. They worked long and hard hours, in many cases on custom-made items. They often worked seven days a week. After closing their business more than 20 years later, Lily and Phil moved to New Port Richie, Florida, for a short time. Soon they decided that they wanted to again be close to family, so they relocated to Houston, Texas, where their daughter Camae and her family were living. Lily was crushed when Phil passed away 25 years ago. Half of her heart was buried with him. She did, eventually, continue on to enjoy volunteering at the Northwest Assistance Ministries food panty and the Senior Center there as well. For a period of time, she volunteered at the local hospital, working in the nursery. She was a member of Congregation Jewish Community North and its Sisterhood. She was also a member of ORT. Her passions were her family and her pets. She supported various children's and animal charities. A reception will be held immediately following services at the home of Camae and Mark Schultz, 247 Ranch House Lane, Richmond, Texas.
