Lea Warshauer Shenker

Estelle (Lea) Shenker, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted wife, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 91, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 19, 1933, to Murray and Sylvia Warshauer in Brooklyn, New York, Lea was a devoted wife to her late-husband, Murray, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage. Together, they raised two children, Syndy and Ben, and she delighted in being a grandmother and great-grandmother to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their families. Lea was known for her dedication to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She actively volunteered at her children’s school, and she was always present at her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s schools for memorable events, sports events, and milestones. Together with her late husband, Murray, she shared a love for golf and tennis, enjoying the game well into their 70s and 80s. Their fondness for baseball took them on regular road trips from Houston to Arizona to catch spring training games, and they were loyal Astros fans, with Lea often keeping score by hand. When not enjoying sports, Lea and Murray enjoyed their trademark buy one get the rest free movie special, where they bought tickets to the first movie screening on a given day but stayed for the rest of the showings of a few more movies. Lea also enjoyed long phone calls and visits with her friends and family, regular games of Mah Jongg, and daily crossword puzzles. Grandy (named by her grandchildren) was adored by her late husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and leaves behind many fond and loving memories. She is survived by her children, Syndy Gold (husband, Marc) and Ben; grandchildren, Brooke Baum Jones (husband, Mike), Lori Williamson (husband, Jacob), Cory Baum (wife, Rachel), Andy Baum (wife, Kyla); and great-grandchildren, Laila and Gavin (Andy and Kyla), Max, Sari, and Jack (Brooke and Mike), Houghton and Robbie (Lori and Jacob), and Myles and Maryn (Cory and Rachel). The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Sophia and Jack Bender Memorial Chapel at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Lane, Houston, Texas 77055.
