Laurie Rosenau Boniuk

Laurie Rosenau Boniuk, 92, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully in her home in Houston, Texas on Sunday, March 22, 2026. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 67 years, Milton Boniuk; her son, David (Kelli) and daughter, Debbie; her cherished grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, and Aron Sable (Amanda Michalk), and Ethan and Mitchell Boniuk; and her great-grandchildren, Emmett and Lilah Sable. Laurie is reunited with her daughter, Ellen Boniuk; her parents, Ferdinand Rosenau and Pauline Sklaroff Rosenau of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and her sisters, Leonore Kessler and Janet Waas. Laurie spent most of her life in Houston, where she proudly raised her family and built a life rooted in faith, education, and service. Before marrying and moving to Houston, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and taught second grade for several years, an early reflection of her lifelong commitment to learning and nurturing others. In 1985, following the loss of her daughter, Ellen, Laurie embraced a new chapter as librarian at Congregation Emanu El. She served in this role with dedication and warmth for close to thirty years, finding great joy in supporting the congregation and its religions school students. She also found deep meaning in her many years of volunteer work with Celebration Company through Alexander Jewish Family Service. Together, Laurie and Milton were generous supporters of numerous organizations close to their hearts, including Holocaust Museum Houston, The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, Alexander Jewish Family Service, the Boniuk Institute at Rice University, and the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston. Their philanthropy helped establish the Ellen Boniuk Early Childhood Center at the ERJCC West Campus as well as the Boniuk Tennis Center and the Laurie and Milton Boniuk Wellness Center at the ERJCC Main Campus, honoring both their daughter’s memory and their shared love of tennis. Above all, Laurie found her greatest joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treasured time spent together, especially family gatherings and visits to the ranch in Sealy, Texas, where generations came together to relax, laugh, and create lasting memories. She took immense pride in each of their lives and delighted in watching her family grow. Our family is profoundly grateful for the exceptional care Laurie received in her later years. We thank the Fidus Healthcare team, led by Antonio Chan and Homer Alarcon, for their kindness and professionalism, and we extend our deepest appreciation to Janice Fusilier, whose loving presence and devoted care over the past five years meant so much to our parents and to all of us. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 3:00 pm in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet Street, Houston, Texas 77074.
