Josie Diamond

"Hi Joe, how's Josie?" This was the standard greeting amongst just about anyone he met. Josie had endeared herself not only to her social friends but also to Joe's business acquaintances. Because of her vibrant personality, joke-telling, and understanding of people, she became very popular. In her youth, Josie's father opened mattress factories, which caused the family to move to many different cities. She lived in Corpus Christi, San Angelo, and Lake Charles, Louisiana, to mention a few. Eventually, she returned to Houston, where Josie started her high school career at San Jacinto High School. She excelled and each year was part of the National Honor Society. After graduation, she went to work at Foley's department store and eventually became an executive secretary to a vice president. The big meeting with her future husband took place while she and her girlfriends were serving Sunday brunch to the Ellington Field servicemen. Joe had made friends with a few of them, and he came to the J.C.C. to have brunch as well. When he spotted the vivacious, good-looking girl with jet black hair, it was love at first sight. For him, not her! As she later said, it took his salesmanship to win her over, but they would go on to be married for the next 66 years. As a couple, they traveled the world by sea and land. They enjoyed over 40 cruises and didn't miss much of what the world had to offer. Josie was the mother of two sons, Gregg and Mark, who both became doctors. Josie's sister, Dorothy, was married to Jerry Lowenthal and also had two children, a boy and a girl: Danny and Marni. Josie's brother, Ross Silverstein, married Gail and had four children: Marcy, Keith, Max, and Curt. Later, he remarried and had a son, Blake. Her grandchildren include Joshua, whose parents are Mark and Yvette Diamond, and Gregg’s children with LeeAnn Diamond, Drake and twins Leah and Zach. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the Bender Memorial Chapel at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak, 7445 Awty School Lane, Houston, Texas 77055.
