Jean Greene

Jean Provder Greene, 97, died Monday, August 1, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to Morris and Esther Provder. She later moved to Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School . After graduating from High School, Jean worked as a secretary until she met and married her husband , the late Irving (Greenstein) Greene. Jean then became a homemaker and mother to three children , Michael, Elayne and Esther. She had a joy for life and was an active volunteer in B'nai Brith, ORT, and Hadassah. She was also an advocate and a volunteer for Children's Literacy. She was the recipient of the Houston Independent School District's Volunteer of the Year Award. Jean moved to Houston in her later years to be with her children and grandchildren. She loved being a grandmother, and later a great grandmother. In Houston, she joined Congregation Beth Israel where she worshipped regularly and participated in the sisterhood as well as many other temple activities . She was also a member of the Senior's program at the Jewish Community Center( JCC). At the JCC, she enjoyed going to lectures, learning and socializing . Jean is survived by her daughter Elayne Greene. Also, by her daughter Esther Treistman, her son -in- law Dr. Terry Treistman, her granddaughters Rachel Treistman, Angelica Treistman Hollander and her husband Matthew Hollander, and her great granddaughter Eden Hollander. Additionally, she is survived by her grandsons Asher Greene, Mendel Greene, granddaughter Allison Allen, great grandchildren Bailor and Trace Allen, granddaughter Katy Beer and her husband Casey Beer, great grandchildren Logan and Brett Beer, granddaughter Adrienne Shoaee and her husband Sherwin Shoaee, and great grandchildren Lalya and Arman Shoaee. In her later years, Jean was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. She eventually moved to The Seven Acres Nursing Home Facility which became her home for almost 16 years. Our family would like to thank Seven Acres for the excellent care that she received. We would especially like to thank the staff, Malcolm Slatko, Barbara Reagan, Dr. Henderson, Melanie Beckman, and Jean's caretaker, Westella ( Peaches) Staten, for their compassion , love and understanding . They were all her second family. Donations in Jean's honor,can be made to the Alzheimer's foundation of America, or to Seven Acres- Jewish Senior Care Services in Houston.
