Janet Clairfield Tobias, born on March 29, 1937, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 86 years old. Janet was the cherished daughter of Max and Ruth Clairfield. While still in high school, fate introduced her to Barry Tobias. After graduating from San Jacinto High, Janet attended U of H for a short time and prepared for her wedding. Their union on June 16, 1956, marked the beginning of a journey filled with enduring love. Strengthened by their shared traditions, such as their steadfast Friday trips to the beauty shop, Janet and Barry crafted a bond that stood the test of time. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home at Town and Country Apartments, where the arrival of their two daughters, Terri and Randi, brought immeasurable joy into their lives. Janet's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she graciously welcomed her mother and Bessie into their home on Calumet, and a short while later they all moved to their forever home on Osby. Throughout the years, Janet's household became a sanctuary filled with warmth and feminine energy, even the family pets were female. She was the heart and soul of her family, presiding over every meal with love and care, ensuring that dinners were served promptly at 6:30, each dish lovingly prepared by her skilled hands. An exemplary hostess, Janet was renowned for her annual Rosh Hashanah open house, where homemade desserts, crafted alongside her mother, delighted guests. Similarly, her Passover Seders were a testament to her culinary prowess, with a revolving door of family and friends always welcomed at her table. Janet cherished her family dearly, relishing in holidays and weekends spent with cousins, the Binders, and memorable trips to Lake Conroe. She found joy in the company of friends, particularly during their excursions to Galveston with the Brands, and weekly bridge games and sailing with the Gorels. Janet's organizational acumen was unparalleled, effortlessly managing carpool duties and attending to her children's needs with unwavering dedication. As her family expanded with the arrival of grandchildren, Janet found pure bliss in their presence, doting on them endlessly before sending them home with cherished memories. Her love and wisdom will forever resonate in their hearts. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Ruth Clairfield, her brother Seymour, and her son-in-law Stuart Bamberger. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Barry Tobias, her daughters Terri Bamberger and Randi Goldberg (Bobbie Andrews), her grandchildren Michelle Goldberg (John Beilue), Amanda Becraft (Andrew), and Brian Bamberger. In Janet's passing, the world has lost a beacon of love, kindness, and grace. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet St., Houston, Texas 77074.
