Irwin Miller

Irwin Miller, R.Ph., passed away in Houston, Texas on Monday, August 17, 2026. He was the devoted husband of the late Fay Levine Miller for 76 years. Irwin was the son of the late Bessie and Solomon David Miller as well brother of the late Gus Miller, the late Becky Bayer and the late Jennie Grodsky. He was the father of Marilyn Levin and husband, Alan; Susan Chafitz and the late Barry Chafitz; Russel Miller and wife, Mary; and Patti Solomon and husband, Dean. Irwin was a grandfather to nine grandchildren and great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren. Irwin was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 18, 1928, and grew up during the Great Depression. He attended the University of Houston, earning his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1950. On October 16, 1949, he married his beloved Fay, en,barking on a lifelong partnership grounded in love, hard work, and integrity. A distinguished leader and innovator in pharmacy, Irwin was the longtime owner of Prescription Laboratory and later served as Vice President for Eckerd Prescription Laboratory and Pharmacy Corporation of America. Over his dedicated career, he designed semi-automatic blister card packaging machines, patented a 7-day medication administration delivery system, and serviced over 100 nursing homes and 7,000 residents. Irwin served as President of the Harris County Pharmacy Association, Director of the Texas Pharmacy Association, and District Director for SCORE. His achievements were recognized with the Pharmacist of the Year award for both Harris County and Texas, as well as the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Even at the age of 98, he created the "Getting to Know you Group" at The Medallion, a venue for assisted living residents to learn about their neighbors and continue to enrich their lives. Though he earned many career accolades, he always considered his family to be his greatest achievement. The family wants to express our sincere gratitude to the devoted and caring staff at The Medallion Assisted Living Center. Irwin will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
