Harry Melnick

Harry Melnick passed away at the age of 90 on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, compassion, caring, and kindness. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Ilene Elkins (Terry), Lauren McCreary (Kevin), and Victoria Melnick; his grandchildren, Nicholas Elkins, Dustin Elkins, Angela Elkins, Elise McCreary, and Aubrey McCreary; his great-grandchildren, Bella and Emma Elkins, and Maxwell Hanes; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Brent (Paul). Harry was born July 5, 1935, in Pultusk, Poland to the late Joseph and Dina Melnick. Along with his family, he left Poland in 1939, fleeing the war, and lived in Russia and Germany before immigrating to America in 1948 at the age of 13. He quickly mastered the English language and embarked on his future, graduating with a degree in pharmacy from University of Houston. Being the driven individual that he was, it was no time before he opened his own pharmacy here in Houston. His genuine compassion and care for others turned the pharmacy into a flourishing business that he loved. He met Rose, his beloved late wife of 62 years, and married her at the age of 20, beginning his own family. This led to years of joy filled with a multitude of vacations that will be dearly remembered by all who shared them. From Utah to Canada to Poland, he traveled around the world going on ski trips with his daughters and his grandsons. Into his final years, he played tennis with dear friends and had breakfast regularly with his fraternity brothers. Anyone who was lucky enough to be part of his life was there forever. Harry’s life centered around providing for his family and taking care of EVERYONE. Anyone that knows him knows there is nothing he wouldn’t do for you. Even at 90 years old, he was the first to offer to help move furniture or to drive you to an appointment. If someone came into the pharmacy looking hungry, he didn’t waste a moment before offering to buy them food. He was the most generous and fair person you will ever meet, and trusted others to a fault. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Adath Israel Cemetery, 4714 Airline Drive, Houston, Texas 77022. He will be loved and deeply missed by all who knew him and he will be in our hearts forever
