Golda Rita Wilkenfeld

Golda Rita Wilkenfeld of Houston passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Rita was born on July 27, 1940, in Ft. Worth to the late Rose and Isaac Handler. Rita’s large circle of friends and family cherished her kind smile and warm outgoing nature. Being a loving wife to her husband Eugene for over 56 years and mother to her children, Robert, David and Ginger was her greatest source of joy and pride. Rita always wanted to have fun in life, playing card games like bridge and gin with neighbors and friends, and games of scrabble and mahjong were a part of her daily life. Watching game shows, especially Jeopardy with her best friend Anne was a cherished weekday ritual for over 40 years. She was a great conversationalist with a sharp mind and witty sense of humor. Entertaining trips with her husband and friends to Las Vegas and Louisiana were frequent and most of the time fairly “lucky”. Rita loved to bowl and play golf, over the years she made numerous life-long friends while throwing strikes and sinking a few “hole in one’s”. She truly cherished the friends she made as a member of Willowisp and Sugar Creek Country Club, playing golf and card games on the weekends was her mainstay for well over 40 years. Rita was a fabulous cook, feeding the folks at Temple Emanu El as a caterer for decades, and feeding her family at home with meals made from love. She was a doting mother to her children and grandchildren. Selfless, loving, kind, compassionate and generous, Rita was the best mother a child could ever ask for. She loved her grandchildren deeply. Payton, Alessio, Skylar and Kendall were the highlight of her day when they visited or stayed with grandma. If there was a birthday, sporting event or school function that involved her grandchildren, she was always there giving her genuine love and support. She would have done anything for them. Rita was preceded in death by her son, Robert Isaac Wilkenfeld, her sister, Bayla Simon, and husband, Eugene Wilkenfeld. She is survived by her son David Wilkenfeld, daughter Ginger Berni, son-in-law Xavier, and grandchildren, Payton, Skylar, and Kendall Wilkenfeld and Alessio Berni. A graveside service wwas held on on Sunday, December 11th, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet St, Houston, TX 77074.
