Geralyn "Geri" Konigsberg

Geralyn “Geri” Konigsberg, cherished wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away quietly at her home on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Born on March 4, 1953, she lived a life defined by compassion, service, and devotion to others — leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. Originally from New York City, Geri carried the spirit of her big-city roots into every corner of her life. In the early 1970s, she moved to Texas to attend college and soon made Houston her forever home. While she fully embraced her life in Texas, she never lost her unmistakable New York spirit — her quick wit and humor, her love of a good deli sandwich, and her delight in a Broadway show. She effortlessly blended that East Coast spark with Southern warmth, creating a presence that was both vibrant and deeply welcoming. Geri’s life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and generosity. She began her distinguished career in public relations with Houston ISD, later joining Houston Lighting & Power (HL&P), the University of Houston, and ultimately UTHealth Houston and the Harris County Psychiatric Center. She was the quintessential public servant — devoted to improving the lives of others through her work at Houston’s leading institutions. In every role, she was admired not only for her professional excellence but also for the way she encouraged, mentored, and cared for those around her. Her deep love for family and others was second to none — she was everyone’s aunt, friend, and confidante. She loved hosting family gatherings, sharing her traveling adventures with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and was always up for a shopping trip. She constantly reminded those around her that family, in all its forms, comes first. Geri was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Isaac and Anne Konigsberg; her brother, Carl Konigsberg; and her husband, Mike Edmonds. She later found love again with her devoted husband, Mike Massengale, who survives her. While her professional accomplishments were many, Geri’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Mike Massengale, and her loving daughters: Sharon (Chris) Bosley, Christi (Mark) Ortiz, and Katelyn (Garrett) Forester. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends, all of whom will carry her love and memory in their hearts. A graveside service will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston 77055. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org, a cause close to their hearts. Though her passing was unexpected, we will celebrate the extraordinary life she lived. Geri’s love, her spirit, and the example she set will continue to guide and inspire generations to come.
