Gerald Fleishman

Gerald Fleishman, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle passed away peacefully on June 10, 2021 at the age of 85. He was born on January 29, 1936 in Springs, South Africa, a small town near Johannesburg. Gerald was the youngest of 3 brothers and family was always the most important thing to him. While at a wedding with his parents, he set sight on a beautiful woman across the room and told his mom that one day he would marry her. Six months later, on June 15, 1958, he married the love of his life Eileen. Shortly after that he started an automotive retail chain which grew into one of the largest in the country. He had the reputation of being a kind, hardworking, and honest man, which helped to make him very successful. Due to political uncertainty, Gerald and Eileen decided to give up everything and move to the United States so they could give their sons a better future. He moved to Houston in February 1978 with his wife and 4 sons. He started another successful business in Houston and was overjoyed when his 4 sons joined the family business. Up until a few years ago, Gerald got great joy walking around the business and talking with the employees. Gerald never met a person he didn't get along with. He loved having conversations with everyone and loved to talk about his time in South Africa. Everyone who knew him would tell you he was a people person. He was a gentleman, warm and friendly to all. Gerald was an honest and upright person, who spoke the truth, a man of great integrity. Working with his 4 sons was one of his greatest accomplishments. Not only was Gerald a great businessman, but he was also an accomplished musician who had an ear for music. He loved the adventure of travel and experiencing new places, especially traveling with his family on cruises and overseas. He loved attending all of his grandchildren's events and enjoyed watching professional sports. Most importantly, Gerald always had a deep commitment to Judaism and the high holidays were his favorite holidays because that was when the entire family would get together. Gerald is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate Eileen of 62 years, his sons Clive (Lisa), David (Lisa), Shaun (Marina), Neville (Libi) and his 9 grandchildren Ashley (David), Travis (Fiancé Isabel), Nicole, Danielle, Joshua, Natalie, Julia, Mia and Ella. Funeral services were held on June 11, 2021 at Congregation Beth Yeshurun Cemetery on Post Oak Road.
