Evie Belinda Gould Thomas

**This obituary was found on a notepad in Evie's apartment. It was written primarily by her late husband and love of her life, Lawrence Thomas, at some point before his passing in 2019, and was, unsurprisingly, later edited by Evie herself.** Evie Belinda Gould Thomas, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, August 2nd in Houston, Texas after a long and courageous battle. She was plagued by ill health for many years. She bravely fought, but the final battle proved to be too much. Evie was born in Kansas City, MO. She attended University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, and graduated from University of Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater. She was predeceased by her devoted and loving husband of 36 years, Lawrence, her mother and father of beloved memory, Ida and Dan Gould, her uncles Max Walters and Harry Walters, her aunt Margaret Walters and cousin Eliott Walters. Even though she was in ill health for many years, she had a zest for living. She loved her family and her friends, and there was nothing she would not do for the ones she loved. She loved to shop for herself, her family, and her friends. After college she went back to Kansas City and continued a long distance love affair with the love of her life, Lawrence, whom she had met at UT Austin. Her first career was dinner theater at Waldo Dinner Theatre, summer stock at University of Missouri, theater at JCC, and other small theater groups. She worked retail at Wolfe Brothers before marrying Lawrence and returning to Texas, first Lubbock then Houston. She became a sales manager at Sakowitz in the Galleria and she later worked as a legal secretary at her husband's law office. But the part she was born to play was loving mother to her two wonderful sons, Matthew [Daniel] and Brian [Edward]. There was nothing she would not do for her two boys, who were the light of her life and her reason for living. She marveled at all of their accomplishments. Matthew's love of computers and Brian's love of baseball. As they grew into young men her pride swelled as they grew into successful young men. She was a life member of Emma Lazarus Hadassah and served on the board continuously from 1993 until 2020, first as Recording Secretary and then the Remembrance Card Chairwoman. It was very important to her to always send the perfect card, whether for simchas, get well, or sympathy. She knew how important it was for people to be remembered in life as well as death. She was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue, where her two boys were taught the meaning of Torah. She leaves behind to mourn her beloved two sons and their wives, Matthew and Stacey Thomas and Brian and Shannon Thomas, her five grandchildren, Dylan, Quinn, Jones, Layla, and Addison, as well as many friends and family members scattered throughout the United States. Services [will be] be held at Beth Israel on Monday, August 7th at 11am. [Evie] will then be buried at the VA Cemetery [with] her beloved husband, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to Hadassah in her memory.
