Esther Hyam Weinstein

Esther Hyam Weinstein passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the age of 97. Esther was born August 22,1928, in Bronx, New York to the late George and Hazel Hyam. Married to the love of her life, Sheldon, for 53 years, they enjoyed living in Houston, Texas where Sheldon worked in the furniture industry. Esther kept busy raising their family, enjoyed swimming with Sheldon at the JCC, traveling the world, and found time to make significant contributions to the Jewish community. She was a member of B’nai Brith Women, served as president of Pioneer Women, served as administrative assistant to Rabbi Schachtel, and worked 25 years as administrative assistant to the ADL director. But Esther’s pride and joy were always for her son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Marla, and her daughter, Suzann. She loved them all very much. They would often tell her how much they loved her, and her response was always “Love You More!” After Sheldon passed away, Esther decided to move to Brookdale Galleria where many of her friends lived. She thrived there and was a regularly active resident for 11 wonderful years. She served on their Welcoming Committee, a proud member of the Off Your Rockers Kazoo Band and participated in many of their events and entertainment holiday shows. She also loved spending time traveling on various field trips, was a talented artist, and enjoyed their painting classes. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed all their theatre and musical outings. And, always, a special time was had when Suzann would travel from Dallas to spend wonderful weeks with Esther at Brookdale! Esther was preceded in death by her parents, George and Hazel Hyam, her brother, Jack, and her Aunt Rose who helped raise Esther during her early years. She is survived by her children, Michael and Marla Weinstein and Suzann Weinstein, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews that she deeply loved. The family wishes to express a special thank you for their love and support to the entire Brookdale Galleria community, all the doctors and nurses at Houston Methodist Hospital, and Vitas Hospice Care. A funeral service officiated by Rabbi Steven Morgen will take place on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 1:00 pm in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet Street, Houston, Texas 77074.
