Dr. Murray Klaff

Dr. Murray Klaff, 86 passed away on February 1, 2015 after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his children Dr. Mark Klaff and his wife Marsha, Suzanne Shanoff, Roger Klaff and Beth Bevil and her husband Steve and his brother-in-law Dr. Bill Stanton. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Mollie, Jeremy and Evan Klaff. Samantha Shanoff, Katie Estelle Klaff, Adam, Ben and Sam Bevil. Murray is preceded in death by his loving wife Eleanor, the mother of their four children. He is also preceded in death by his twin brother Dr. Daniel Klaff and his wife Carolyn, his sister Charlotte Stanton and his best friend Susan Wilhite. Murray was born May 11, 1928 along with Daniel in the Bronx, New York to Mildred and Harry Klaff. Murray graduated from San Jacinto High School, Houston in 1945. Murray and Daniel went on to Pennsylvania State College of Optometry where they graduated in 1949 and began their professional career after two years of military service in Alaska during the Korean War. Murray was involved in many professional organizations and was known internationally through his lectures in Optometry and practice management. He served as president of the local Optometric society, was a faculty member of the College of Optometry at the University of Houston and was well known for his specialty in pediatric optometry. He had many articles published in professional journals and a long and successful career. He was loved by his patients because of his dry sense of humor and gentle manner. He had many hobbies that he enjoyed. He started a stamp collection with Mark in 1964 which he still has to this day. He painted abstract art and was a photographer who enjoyed taking family photos. Our father was a kind and gentle soul who never complained and always responded 'I'm fine' when asked how he was feeling. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him. The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 3:30 at Emanu El Memorial Park.
