Deborah Ann Goldman

Deborah Ann Goldman passed away on Tuesday February 21, 2017 after a courageous twenty month battle with Glioblastoma Brain Cancer. Deborah is survived by her husband of 26 years, Ron Goldman and son Nathan Goldman. She is also survived by her Mother Nancy Richard, her Brothers David, Curt and Josh Richard, sister in law Ellen Richard and sister in law Amanda Richard. She is also survived by several Nieces and Nephews. Deborah was preceded in Death by her Father Lyle Richard and Sister Ledena Richard. Finally Deborah leaves behind her loving English Springer Spaniel Macy. Deborah was born in Owosso Michigan and raised in the nearby town of Perry. She was raised by her parents Nancy and Lyle Richard. Her Father Lyle worked extremely hard to support his family. He was a big Detroit Tigers baseball fan. During her younger years Deborah spent a lot of time in the summers with Lyle listening to the Tiger games on the radio. Lyle worked long hours at General Motors in East Lansing and Deborah determined if she wanted to spend time with her Father, she would need to become a Tiger fan and listen to the games with him on the Radio. The highlight of the summers growing up was the family fishing trip to Lake Independence in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Record numbers of Lunkers were caught and eaten on those summer trips. The competition between Lyle and his boys was fierce. Reliable sources indicate Lyle would normally out fish everyone. Deborah's Mother Nancy would then pre pare a big fish fry every night. Deborah attended college at Northern Michigan University in Marquette and obtained her degree in Criminology. Marquette, which is located in the Upper Peninsula averages close to 150 inches of snow annually. Deborah decided she had enough of the snow and cold weather and Moved to Houston in 1980 after graduating from college. She spent the next several years working as workers compensation claims adjustor. Deborah and Ron met in 1985 and were married five years later in 1990 in East Lansing Michigan. Prior to their wedding Deborah converted to Judaism. Ron attended all the classes with her. Deborah devoted herself to being a wife and incredible Mother. She unwaveringly supported her husbands professional career.She also valued her relationships with Ron's Partners and their spouses. Deborah's top priority was her family and home. While Nathan was growing up she always opened her house to Nathan's friends for sleep over's, wiffle ball, air gun wars ect. She loved having the boys over all the time and enjoyed cooking for them. Deborah had a passion for reading. She enjoyed reading all the time. Deborah was an incredible cook and enjoyed making dinner every night for Ron and Nathan. Later on in life she became excellent on the grill. She would Barbeque everything. She loved her dogs, Taylor, Allie and Macy. She walked Macy every night and enjoyed visiting with neighbors and children along her route. In fact, quite often she was having so much fun walking Macy that she would call Ron and Nathan to let them know she understood they were hungry, however first she really needed to take Macy one more block before preparing dinner. Deborah's attitude was amazing during her struggle with this terrible illness. She always had an outgoing personality. One of the silver linings of her illness was how funny she became after she suffered Brain Cancer. In fact while she was rehabbing at TIRR from her Brain Surgery she started cracking everyone up with her funny jokes and never stopped. Ron, Carmen and Dorothy found her jokes to be so funny they started to write them down. Country Western singer Tracy Lawrence has a hit song named "You Find out Who Your Friends are" Ron and Nathan would like to express their gratitude to many friends and family members. First and Foremost are Carmen Chavez and Dorothy Ford. These two wonderful ladies are true superstars and will forever remain close members of the Goldman family. Words cannot express how appreciative Ron and Nathan are for Carmen's and Dorothy's love and support. Deborah loved these two ladies. Carmen's boys Iskander, Wady and Estphen also played a pivotal role as caregivers and will also remain members of the Goldman family. Ron is also very thankful for the support provided by his sister Wendy Zagha. This is especially true during the early stages of Deborah's illness with her trips to Houston. The counseling and friendship provided by Rabbi Gideon Estes cannot be underestimated. Ron would like to also thank many of his other friends including Gina Abrams, Linda Peterson, Lou Ann Timmreck and Kimberly Hillman. Ron remains extremely appreciative of the assistance his partners and colleagues provided at Wortham Insurance and Risk Management. This is especially true for Mary Oliver. The family would also like to thank Deborah's team at MD Anderson including Dr. Marta Penas-Prado, Dr.Monica Loghin, Nurse Practitioner Christa Eseligma and Nurse Susan Carr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Deborah's name at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
