David Miller

David Norman Miller peacefully passed away on July 23, 2015 in Houston, TX. He was born on December 19, 1929. David was a loving and compassionate husband, father, and grandfather. He was an inspiration and guiding light to all who knew him. He was a gentle soul who only cared about others, and when asked if he needed anything, he only wanted your best wishes. He handled his disabilities with uncommon grace and courage. He loved to have dinner with family and friends at all the finest restaurants; however, his two favorites were China Gardens and James Coney Island. He could tell the funniest jokes and could always put a smile on your face. He loved sports and would watch any sporting event, no matter how boring. In fact, his first date with Barbara was to a Rice Track meet. He was an avid bridge player and enjoyed participating in Las Vegas tournaments. David was a native Houstonian who attended San Jacinto High School and later attended and graduated from Rice University with a degree in Accounting. He was also a member of the Mensa Society. He was self-employed for 60 years and started David N. Miller and Company accounting firm. David also proudly served in the National Guard. He served as President of the Brotherhood at Temple Emanu El. He is now with the trio of Uncle Buddy and Uncle Joe watching from the 50-yard line great skybox in the heavens. A special thanks to his Physicians Dr. Mark Edelman and Dr. Clive Fields, and his caregiving angels Mariana Rodriguez and Cynthia Jones. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Miller, of 58 years, and his three sons, Jeff, Chet and wife, Elizabeth; Randy Miller and wife, Michel; grandchildren David, Megan, Nicole, Katie, and Eric; sister, Loreen Bilansky; niece Michelle and nephew Michael. He is preceded in death by his father, Max and mother, Sophie. Private Burial will be at 10:00 AM Sunday, July 26. Memorial Services will be at 11:30 AM at Congregation Emanu El at the Proler Chapel. Reception will follow service in Multi-Purpose Room. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in David's name to Rice University Annual Fund.
