David Saul Finger

David Saul Finger, 76, passed away on August 18, 2024, in Houston, Texas. He was born in New York City to the late Moe and Essie Weisser Finger. David served in the United States Air Force between 1968 and 1972 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. It was during his service that he married his future wife of 53 years, Phyllis Ann Sitver, at Shepard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. His daughter, Jennifer, was born in September, 1970, while he was stationed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He then moved to Denver where he completed his service before returning to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he earned Bachelor’s and Master of Business Administration degrees at his beloved University of Michigan. His son, Michael, was born during that time in June, 1974. Shortly after, he relocated with his family to Houston, where he resided until his passing. His lifelong love of numbers, computers and technology led to a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant, systems analyst and SAP field consultant for the United States armed forces. He treasured his Jewish heritage and served as president of Congregation Metzudat Shalom in Houston, Texas, prior to its dissolution in the 1980’s. Later, he was a devoted member of Congregation Brith Shalom in Bellaire, Texas where he was a regular of the morning minyan and volunteered in the hospitality center at MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston. David was also passionate about bridge, travel, detective novels and British television dramas. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends, his kindness and compassion, his personal strength, and his sense of humor. David is survived by his daughter Jennifer Finger, his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Gabi Finger, and his grandchildren Sydney and Sean Finger. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Finger, and his sister Saralee Teitel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet, Houston, Texas 77074.
