Barry Raymond Zucker

Barry Raymond Zucker lost his fight to a sudden diagnosis of Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 12, 1944, Barry graduated from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, where he was active in Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. While in college, he met the love of his life, Rina, to whom he was married for 58 plus years. Upon graduation, Barry began his career in the retail business with the Macy-May corporation. Thus began his fascination with traveling the world, which he and Rina and friends often did. A promotion brought them to Houston, but after a while, Barry’s love of fashion replaced the corporate hierarchy, and he began his own wholesale clothing repping company with showrooms in the Dallas Mart. He was always known for his designer shirts and stylish shoes. When Barry retired, he decided to become Rina’s resident chef and baker, and loved cooking, grilling, and baking for her and their friends. Retirement also afforded him the opportunity to expand his enjoyment of traveling and planning trips, so he joined his friend’s travel agency and became a part-time agent. However, Barry’s most rewarding endeavor came when he became a volunteer and docent at the Houston Museum of Science in 2010. He developed an affinity for the insects and butterflies there and loved his position as Hall Lead and Volunteer Chair of the Cockrell Butterfly Center. He often remarked on how happy his experiences at the museum made him, on how proud he was of setting up an “insect zoo”, and logging over 1,839 rewarding volunteer hours. Barry was also an avid sports fan and dedicated theater goer, and always enjoyed fine dining with good friends. Barry is survived by his wife, Rina, his brothers Stuart and Jim, his sisters-in-law, Debra and Louise, and by his nieces and nephews, both blood and adopted. He was a loving and devoted husband who cherished his wife, was a good man and good friend who will be missed but not forgotten. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in the Gordon Chapel of Congregation Beth Israel.
