It is with profound sadness we announce that Barbara Black Levine - beloved wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend - passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the age of 83 after valiantly battling a long and difficult illness. Born on October 3, 1940, in Houston, Texas to parents Leon (Lonnie) and Gertrude (Gertie) Black, Barbara was a woman of quiet determination and deep compassion. Whether it was preparing meals, taking care of loved ones, offering words of comfort, or simply just being present, she touched the lives of everyone who knew and adored her. She excelled in a long and rewarding non-profit marketing and public relations career. She was passionate about politics and spirited about sports. She was a voracious reader who supported public libraries several times monthly for decades, and she found immense joy in poring over her Sunday New York Times. Barbara was the embodiment of strength, love, and selflessness. She dedicated her life to her husband and family, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her children and grandchildren were her absolute pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent together, guiding them through life with grace and wisdom. She is survived by her kind and loving spouse, Irv Levine, her sister Dayle Black Krinsky, her children Lanny Sachnowitz (Lisa Aaronson), Leslie Sachnowitz Meimoun (Eric), and Sheila Sachnowitz Curl, and her 10 beloved grandchildren Arielle, Alexandra, and Noah Meimoun; Jonah, Sam, and Sophia Sachnowitz; Emily, Lauryn, Jonathan, and Daniel Curl, as well as so many dear relatives and friends. Barbara’s grandchildren and others all referred to her as “Bebe” − an affectionate and endearing nickname that embodied her boundless courage, inspiration, and light that shone brightly in all our lives. Her unconditional love, bravery in the face of challenges, and unwavering support will be deeply missed but never forgotten. While she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit and legacy will continue to guide and comfort us throughout our lives. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 10:30 AM in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet St., Houston, TX 77074 where family and friends are invited to honor the meaningful life she lived. A special message of gratitude to her extraordinary caregivers, Elena Duran and Wendy Ortiz, who cared for her so compassionately and have become an integral part of our family. Barbara’s blessed memory will forever live in the hearts and minds of those she leaves behind. May her beautiful gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
