Barbara Marcia Roth Haveson

Barbara Marcia Roth Haveson peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 4, 1934, in Wharton, Texas, Barbara enjoyed all the charm and familiarity of growing up in a tight-knit community surrounded by family and friends. Barbara attended the University of Texas and stayed a devoted fan of her Texas Longhorns. While attending UT, she met her husband of fifty-four years, Robert, while he was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base. The pair married in 1956 and eventually moved to Houston where Barbara received her degree in Education from the University of Houston. Barbara began her teaching career in Houston and eventually moved to the Fort Bend School District where she stayed until her retirement in 1990 after almost thirty years of teaching. Barbara and Robert retired to Boynton Beach, Florida, in 1999 and enjoyed all the rewards of retirement life including golfing, making new friends, and traveling the world together. While living in Houston, a cousin made her a lifetime Hadassah member on the condition that she would actively take part. Barbara not only accepted the offer but also became the president of the Kinneret Group in Houston. After moving to Florida, she continued her involvement, joining the Simcha chapter and holding various leadership roles including president. Her dedication was recognized when she was named Woman of Valor in 2010. Barbara was a strong and loving presence as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, Grammy, and friend. She embraced a life full of love, laughter, adventure, and family. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Judy Haveson Cohen; son-in-law, Adam Cohen; grandson, Jack Cohen; and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Haveson; daughter, Celia Hannah Haveson; mother and father, Bertha and Jack Roth; and brother, Joe Roth. A graveside service took place on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Shearith Israel Cemetery, 1000 Barfield Road, Wharton, Texas 77488. The family has asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or the charity of your choice.
