Arleen Honig

Arleen Honig was born on July 1, 1939 and passed away on June 7th, 2016, following ashort but brave battle against cancer. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Morton Honig, three children, Darcy Simon, Caryn Honig and Howard Honig, and four grandchildren, Samantha and Natasha Schepps and Logan and Juliana Simon. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Arleen was the youngest of three daughters born to Samuel and Sylvia Rosen. Her two older sisters, Harriet Easton, who survives her, and Flora Gordon, who passed away in 2009, lovingly referred to Arleen as the "kid." After marrying Morton in 1960, Arleen left her life and family in New York to raise her own family in nine different homes, five different states, over a period of thirty-five years. Arleen pursued many different interests, including music, art, travel, cooking, sewing, quilting, and tennis. Her home was decorated with many of her paintings, artwork and quilts. She lovingly made personalized pillows and quilts for each of her four grandchildren to take to their college dorms. She was extremely creative and utilized her artistic talents to open and run a successful advertising agency in Houston during the 1980's. Arleen loved to entertain... and be entertained. She enjoyed a good party and Arleen and Mort would often be the first ones on and the last ones off the dance floor. She also loved to cook and often had elaborate parties at her home. From a young age, Arleen was a talented musician who could play the piano "by ear". She loved to sing and pursued voice lessons (dreaming of becoming a lounge singer one day-- she settled for a spot in the Beth Israel choir!) Arleen was also fiercely competitive, whether playing Gin Rummy or Scrabble, or battling on the tennis court. Arleen loved life. She had a huge smile and a huge heart. While visiting Los Angeles, Arleen and Mort became involved with Operation Mend, an organization which provides medical services and support to wounded veterans.
