Annie Reichek

Annie Rubin Reichek, 98, of Houston, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Annie was born on December 27, 1925 to Isidor and Lena Rubin in Woodridge, New York. Annie grew up Bridgeport, Connecticut and lived in North Carolina and Tennessee. During the war, she worked as a secretary on an Army base in San Antonio. A group of friends from Houston were traveling to San Antonio to go square dancing, and on this occasion, Isadore (Ish) Reichek asked his friends to get him a date. Rocky & Zippy Lidsky introduced Ish to Annie. They dated for less than 3 months before getting engaged while celebrating her birthday at the Rice Hotel on New Year’s Eve. They were married in February 1950 in Houston at Isadore’s parents' house. After moving to Houston, Annie became a homemaker however she didn’t know how to cook. She spent time learning to cook from Ish’s mother, Jennie, and his sisters, Renee & Florence. Annie and Ish had two children, Kenneth “Kenny” Reichek and Deborah Reichek Freilich. After the kids were grown, they spent their free time traveling with family, siblings and friends around the world. Annie enjoyed playing Mahjong and Canasta as well as bowling and square dancing. Of all her hobbies, nothing made her happier than taking care of others, usually through cooking and baking for them. Annie was resilient and persevering and known by all as a loving and giving woman. She kept very close relationships to those she loved and trusted. She was excellent at keeping secrets and had a talent for listening; she always provided an ear to those who needed a friend. She was strict in her beliefs of always choosing right from wrong and was self-disciplined. She was quietly generous to those less fortunate than her. She lived a very long and wonderful life. Annie is survived by her children, Kenny & Sue Ann Reichek; Deb & Joe Freilich; grandchildren, Tamara & Matt Cohen, Shayna & Scott Cone, Brian & Lera Freilich, Ira Freilich and Lane Reichek & Sabrina Trujillo. She was blessed with many great grandchildren: Drew & Blake, Charlotte, Sebastian and Dom. Annie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Isadore Reichek; her parents, Isidor and Lena Rubin and four siblings, Sara & Dan Perlman, Francis & Irving Blumenthal, Max & Jeanette Rubin, Beatrice & Morris Simon; and her great grandson, Elton Cone. The funeral will be held at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Ln., Houston, Texas, 77055, at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
